PreFireX Proves Its Strength in the Field: Tested by Finland’s Emergency Services Academy

When wildfire prevention is your mission, field-tested results matter. That’s why the Emergency Services Academy Finland (ESAF) took PreFireX, an innovative fire prevention solution developed by Xpyro, into the field for real-world trials. The outcome? A powerful confirmation that PreFireX performs exactly as promised — even under variable weather and terrain
conditions.

Field Testing in Mataramäki, Finland

Over the course of three separate test days, ESAF conducted trials in a regeneration felling area in Mataramäki, Finland. The landscape included areas with retention trees, scarified land, and logging waste stacks — in other words, prime wildfire risk zones.

The fire prevention substance was applied using firefighting-standard 42mm hoses and a machine pump:

  • A 2-meter-wide strip was applied in main test areas

  • A 1-meter fire-break line was spread along the test boundary

The goal was to see how PreFireX would behave over drying periods ranging from 6 hours to 5 days — and whether it could still prevent wildfire spread once fully dried and activated (turning from reddish to white in color).

Real-World Results: Fire Control in Action

🔥 One-meter strip = full fire stop
Even under sunny and slightly windy conditions, a strip as narrow as one meter of PreFireX was enough to stop wildfire spread.

🌲 Canopy fire, lower trunks protected
When a fire progressed into the canopy, the lower, treated parts of trees were spared, showing how PreFireX forms a barrier against ground-level ignition.

🌿 Shallow thickets and slash piles
In thickets, fire was effectively halted. In logging waste stacks — where fuel loads are extremely high — fire spread was noticeably slowed, even though some stacks eventually burned.

The boundary between treated and untreated areas remained clearly visible after the burns. PreFireX had done its job: stopping, slowing, and shielding.

Tested, Trusted, and Field-Proven

According to Pekka Toivanen, Planning Officer at ESAF, all three test days confirmed the functionality and effectiveness of PreFireX. Whether used in forest thinning zones, firebreak lines, or logging areas, PreFireX proved to be a reliable barrier against fire spread — even days after application.

Why This Matters

PreFireX isn’t just a chemical — it’s a strategy. One that gives fire authorities, landowners, and emergency services the ability to act before fire strikes. These tests enhance what makes PreFireX unique:

  • Long-term effect (up to 5 days)

  • Visible drying indicator (white = active barrier)

  • Safe for forestry environments

  • Proven effectiveness in real fire conditions

Wildfires don’t wait — and fire prevention solutions can’t either too. That’s why real-world, independent testing of fire retardants is crucial. One of the most compelling recent evaluations of PreFireX, Xpyro’s long-term fire retardant, comes from the Forest Fire Laboratory of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) in Crete, Greece.

PreFireX: The Groundbreaking Fire Retardant Protecting Land, Lives, and the Planet

Each year, wildfires destroy millions of hectares of forest, farmland, and property across the globe. Beyond the visible damage, they also release huge volumes of CO₂, disrupt ecosystems, and endanger human lives and livelihoods. In a world facing intensifying climate risks, effective and proactive fire prevention has never been more urgent.
